ABOUT PERFORMING ARTS

Mid-America Arts Allliance strives to strengthen the infrastructure for the performing arts in our six-state region of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Since our inception in 1972, Mid-America Arts Alliance has been engaged in performing arts touring, and support to presenters and performers remains at the core of the work of the Performing Arts division. In order to further assist performing arts presenters with a broader choice of programming, the Performing Arts Travel Stipend program offers scholarships for professional conferences. This past year, 20 presenters received scholarships for the Midwest Arts Conference or the Association of Performing Arts Presenters conference.

FY2011 GRANTMAKING PROGRAM

The FY2011 Grantmaking Program supports the presentation of touring artists in performing arts venues across our six-state region. Working in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, Mid-America’s Performing Arts division makes grants to presenters in two categories: (1) Regional Touring Program, which helps presenters bring in Mid-America Artists’ Registry artists from our six-state region; and (2) Community Engagement with Touring Artists.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The first round of the FY2011 Regional Touring Program granting category (for programs taking place between July 1 and December 31, 2010) is now CLOSED.
The deadline for the second round of the FY2011 Regional Touring Program granting category (for programs taking place between January 1 and June 30, 2011) is October 15, 2010.
The FY2011 Community Engagement with Touring Artists granting category is now CLOSED.

MID-AMERICA ARTISTS' REGISTRY

Mid-America is home to many talented performing artists, and our regional Artists' Registry provides an online directory of some of the best. Artists in good standing with their state arts agency automatically qualify for inclusion on the Mid-America Artists’ Registry and are encouraged to join. Presenters in our region qualify for Regional Touring Program grants when they book from our Registry, and, if not seeking a grant, they qualify for a booking subsidy simply by booking directly from our Registry. Searchable by performance genre, home-state, fee-range and keywords in their program descriptions, each artist's listing contains complete contact information for booking and links to their own Web sites.

TRAVEL STIPENDS FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS AND PRESENTERS

Mid-America Arts Alliance supports professional development and networking by offering travel stipends for performing artists and presenters from our region. The 2010 Midwest Arts Conference in Indianapolis is a prime examples of a gathering point for bookings, professional development workshops and meetings of the Plains Presenters and Southwest Performing Arts Presenters consortia, where block-booking is coordinated. Other meetings and conferences offering similar opportunities for presenters and performing artists are also eligible.
