ABOUT MID-AMERICA ARTS ALLIANCE
Mid-America Arts Alliance (M-AAA) was created to support and stimulate
cultural activity in communities throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri,
Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. For more than thirty years, M-AAA has originated
and managed regional, multiregional, national, and international programs
that include traveling exhibitions, performing arts touring, community
enrichment, and professional development. Its mission is to enrich communities
through cultural experiences. By emphasizing reach into communities of
all sizes and characteristics, access through affordability, and impact
through support of the artists and communities that it serves, Mid-America
Arts Alliance is able to ensure the cultural vitality of the region through
high-quality arts programming.
Mid-America Arts Alliance includes three major divisions, whose program
mix includes the following:
Visual Arts & Humanities
ExhibitsUSA (EUSA): This national exhibition-touring
program was designed to create access to a wide array of arts and humanities
exhibitions, nurture the development and understanding of diverse art
forms and cultures, and encourage the expanding depth and breadth of cultural
life in local communities.
NEH on the Road: A collaboration between ExhibitsUSA
and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), this program is
designed to offer some of the best exhibitions funded by the NEH to communities
of all sizes.
Performing Arts
Regional Touring Program (RTP): The Regional Touring
Program was created by combining the artistic and financial resources
of Mid-America Arts Alliance, the National Endowment for the Arts, and
the six partner state arts agencies to make connections between artists
and audiences; provide performances, residencies, and educational outreach
events to large and small communities; enhance community cultural life;
and increase public participation in the arts.
Mexico Transnational Project: This project was created
to encourage connections between communities in the six M-AAA states
and talented performing artists from Mexico.
Midwest Arts Conference: The annual performing arts
booking and education conference for the Arts Midwest and M-AAA regions
serving presenters and artists.
ArtsEngage : Mid-America Arts Alliance is proud to offer ExhibitsUSA venues ArtsEngage, a collaborative effort between Mid-America Arts Alliance’s Visual Arts and Humanities and Performing Arts divisions. ArtsEngage provides exhibiting venues an opportunity to connect with professional performing artists that have created programming specific to a variety of ExhibitsUSA’s traveling exhibitions.
Professional Development
Hands-on Experiential Learning Project (HELP): This
program was created to identify and address the professional development
needs of small and midsize museums through a combination of research,
on-site training opportunities, and traveling exhibitions.
Job-A-Like: An annual meeting of staff from the six
state arts agencies of the M-AAA region, designed to provide professional
development, networking opportunities, and information regarding the many
programs provided by M-AAA.
Mid-America Arts Alliance was founded in 1972 and is based in Kansas
City, Missouri. It is governed by a board of directors drawn from its
partner states. Major support is provided by the National Endowment for
the Arts, participant state arts agencies, and leading federal and state
agencies, foundations, and corporations.
