The Good Earth is a delightful exhibition of 25 paintings and 14 artifacts from Huxian County in Shaanxi that represent daily life in rural China. They evoke the vitality of central Shaanxi with their bright, decorative colors and rural themes. They are ardent and unaffected, reflecting the lives, customs, and ideals of the artists who created them. The paintings and artifacts featured in this exhibition introduce us to a region of China that, like the American Midwest, is dominated by agriculture and populated by working people. Through the display, we gain a greater understanding of the customs and culture of a region that enjoys a long artistic history, and of a people who unite art with their daily lives. |
