Valentine Area Arts Council

With a population of less than 3,000, Valentine and the surrounding area are known for its cattle ranches, the sandhills, and outdoor activities. They also have a thriving Arts Council who strives to bring a variety of performing arts events to town.

They were eager to participate in NECAP Pre-NECAP meetingand worked diligently on a list of goals focused on connecting with community groups and reaching new audiences. The residency activities that they planned included a Rotary Club luncheon, a meeting with local law enforcement, two programs for local schools, and "Jammin' Java," jam session open to local guitarists hosted by a local sporting goods business.

Valentine Area Arts Council director Anne Quigley felt that the most lasting impact the NECAP program had on their community was an increase in support from the Rotary Club members, who got a great deal out of Robert’s talk about the economic impact of the arts in the community.
