As you know, affordable, in-depth training opportunities for small museums are sorely lacking. And yet more and more is expected of you—to partner with local schools, to expand your educational services, and to become high-profile destinations in cultural tourism efforts.
As the director of a small museum, this can leave you feeling understaffed, underfunded, and overworked!
Fortunately, HELP, the Hands-on Experiential Learning Project, is there for small museums. HELP is a training project developed to address the specific needs of small museums’ staff, volunteers, and trustees. HELP provides museums with on-site, affordable learning opportunities that further skills in areas critical to successful museums today.
Mid-America Arts Alliance presents the HELP training model with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Arkansas Arts Council. We are able to offer the first year of governance training to 20 museums across Arkansas for their participation in a 12 month project.
Participating Museums will receive:
- Two on-site visits from a project Field Expert, including attendance at a meeting of your Board of Directors
- Travel subsidies for a key museum staff and a board member to attend three HELP training workshops (held in Arkansas)
- Access to online tutorials and participation in a project listserv
- Subsidized membership fees and travel expenses to attend a state or regional museum conference.
