Karl Pierce Joins ExhibitsUSA Preparator Staff
“We’re very pleased that Karl has joined our team,” said Michael Urwiler, Chief Preparator. “We’re a small but efficient department, and Karl’s skills and expertise will allow us to maintain and even improve upon our intense production and art handling schedule.” In his position as Preparator, Pierce will build art crates, frames, display furniture, and other miscellaneous exhibition-related items. In addition, he will mat artwork and prepare objects for shipment to exhibition venues. Pierce most recently owned and operated Karl Pierce Remodeling, a Kansas City-based home rehab company, where he managed all aspects of renovation projects, including estimates, contract negotiation, and project implementation. From 1995 through 1998, he worked as a property manager and artisan, designing and constructing props for on- and off-Broadway theater productions in the greater New York area. “I’m very pleased to find a job that brings me closer to the arts,” said Pierce. “It’s always gratifying when personal passions and work duties coincide.” A native of the Kansas City area, Pierce earned a BFA in theater/technical design and a BA in music from Avila College in Kansas City, Missouri. He then interned at the Yale University School of Drama, specializing in props management. Pierce is married to Carole Poull. They have two sons, Lukas and André, ages six and three. Mid-America Arts Alliance, founded in 1972, is a nonprofit regional arts
organization based in Kansas City, Missouri. It is governed by a board
of directors drawn from its partner states of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri,
Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Major support is provided by the National
Endowment for the Arts, participant state arts agencies, and leading foundations
and corporations. For further information, contact Sarah McGreer at sarah@maaa.org.
