Mid-America Arts Alliance Names New Director of
Communications
Mid-America Arts Alliance announces the promotion of Sarah McGreer to
Director of Communications. McGreer’s duties will include oversight
of publications production, Web expansion and maintenance, and development
of an annual communications plan for the department.
McGreer joined M-AAA in November 2003 as Communications Associate. Since
then, she has created press releases, newsletters, and general marketing
materials for the organization. She has also served as Web master for
the Mid-America Arts Alliance Web site, www.maaa.org.
“Sarah has stepped up to the challenges that have come her way in
the communications department,” said Mary Kennedy McCabe, Executive
Director of Mid-America Arts Alliance. “She has done a remarkable
job in her current position and I am confident she can expand our marketing
and communication opportunities. I look forward to working with her in
her new leadership role.”
McGreer formerly worked for The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art as a software
trainer and analyst. During her tenure there she programmed the organization’s
intranet and Web sites for special exhibitions. Before joining the museum’s
information technology department, McGreer was an assistant in the Nelson-Atkins
education division and in the modern and contemporary arts department,
where she performed duties such as grant reporting and digital image management.
“Working at Mid-America Arts Alliance has drawn on every aspect
of my education and former jobs that I have found fulfilling,” said
McGreer. “It’s exciting to be able to translate my role with
communications and technology into a means for the organization’s
evolution.”
McGreer graduated cum laude with a BA in English and history from Hastings
College, in Hastings, Nebraska. She earned an MA in English from the University
of Kansas, where she taught introductory English classes. Upon graduating,
she joined Allen Press, Inc., a publisher of scientific, technical, and
medical journals, as assistant publisher.
A native of Big Springs, Nebraska, McGreer is married to Daniel A. Hoyt.
The mission of Mid-America Arts Alliance is to enrich communities through
cultural experiences. Founded in 1972, Mid-America Arts Alliance is a
nonprofit regional arts organization based in Kansas City, Missouri. It
is governed by a board of directors drawn from its partner states of Arkansas,
Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Major support is for
Mid-America Arts Alliance is provided by the National Endowment for the
Arts, participant state arts agencies, and leading foundations and corporations.
