Applicant Eligibility Requirements
Applicant organization needs to be located in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, or Texas. Organization also needs to be legally incorporated as a not-for-profit organization with IRS 501(c)(3) status or a unit of a state, local, or tribal government.

Project Eligibility Requirements

• Projects need to occur between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.

• Include at least one performance open and promoted to the general public.

• Feature professional performing artist/ensemble that are Latino, or of Latino descent. The professional artist/ensemble needs to reside outside the applicant's state and metropolitan area.

• Include at least one Educational Activity separate from the performance.

 

Applications

• The educational activity needs to create a connection between the public performance and the community and may consist of a workshop, master class, lecture-demonstration, performance for students (separate from public performances), in-school activity involving students, or other similar activity. If the artist/ensemble is unable to provide a suitable educational activity, you may use artists or scholars/educators from your community to provide this service. This activity should clearly relate to the visiting artist’s performance. Please include applicable resumes or biographical information. Our staff will be happy to provide guidance and technical assistance in developing your educational activities.

• Serve underserved audiences. Through its public performance or educational activity, the project needs to reach audiences that lack access to performing arts and other cultural activities due to geography, economic conditions, ethnic background, disability, age, or other factors.

 

• Applications may be submitted beginning March 1, 2008. (Early submissions increase the possibility of funding). Applications should be at recieved Mid-America Arts Alliance 60 days prior to the start of the project.

Levels of Support
The maximum award possible will be $3,000. Applicants may apply up to the following percentage of the artist fee listed in the artist contract:

50% of the artist contract fee for projects featuring Latino artists from the Mid-America region (Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas).
40% of the artist contract fee for projects featuring Latino artists from outside the Mid-America region, as well as artists from outside the United States.


Additional support of 5% of the artist contract fee may be awarded if the applicant is located in a rural community, pending funding availability. Rural status is determined by information from the U.S. Department of Commerce and based on the MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) rating. (see www.census.gov/geo/www/ua/uc2k.txt)

Accessibility
Mid-America Arts Alliance can only fund projects that take place in accessible facilities. Applicants will be asked to complete an accessibility checklist that confirms your project is fully accessible to all participants.


Ineligible Applications

• Artists appearing as part of a benefit or fundraiser cannot be considered.

• Producing arts organization, such as orchestras, chorales and theater/opera companies, may not request fee support for guest artists appearing as part of the institution’s performances.

 

•Presentations of professional performing artists/ensembles from the same state or metropolitan area as applicant cannot be considered.

 

• Performances by commercial entertainers may not be approved.


Additional Information
Applicants who have received funding from the Regional Touring Program, American Masterpieces: Dance, and other Mid-America Arts Alliance programs are eligible to apply, as well as all other presenters in the Mid-America region. Early submission will increase the likelihood of funding.
