APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicant organizations need to be located in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, or Texas. Organizations also need to be legally incorporated as a not-for-profit organization with IRS 501(c)(3) status or a unit of a state, local, or tribal government.
PROJECT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
1. Projects need to occur between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.
2. Feature a professional performing artist/ensemble from outside the applicant’s state and metropolitan area.
3. Include at least one performance open and promoted to the general public.
4. Serve underserved audiences. Through its public performance or educational activity, the project needs to reach audiences that lack access to performing arts and other cultural activities due to geography, economic conditions, ethnic background, disability, age, or other factors.
5. Include at least one educational activity in addition to the performance. =
EDUCATION ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS
• The educational activity needs to create a connection between the public performance and the community and may consist of a workshop, master class, lecture-demonstration, performance for students (separate from public performances), in-school activity involving students, or other similar activity.
• If the artist/ensemble you have booked is unable to provide a suitable educational activity, you may use artists or scholars/educators from your community to provide this service. This activity should clearly relate to the visiting artist’s performance. Please include applicable resumes or biographical information. Our staff will be happy to provide guidance and technical assistance in developing your educational activities.
ACCESSIBILITY
Mid-America Arts Alliance can only fund projects that take place in accessible facilities. Applicants will be asked to complete an accessibility checklist that confirms your project is fully accessible to all participants. LEVELS OF SUPPORT
The maximum award possible per application will be $5,000. Generally, each organization may receive no more than three grants in an aggregate amount of $13,000 for all applications. Applicants can apply for up to the following percentage of the artist fee listed in the artist contract:
• 35% of the artist contract fee for projects featuring artists from the Mid-America Performing Artists Registry (visit the Registry by clicking here).
• 25% of the artist contract fee for projects featuring artists from the Mid-America six-state region (Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas).
• 15% of the artist contract fee for projects featuring artists from outside the Mid-America six-state region, or international artists.
• Additional support of up to 10% of the artist contract fee may be awarded if the applicant is located in a rural community. Rural status is determined by information from the U.S. Department of Commerce and based on the MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) rating for each county (see www.census.gov/geo/www/ua/ua_2k.html).
INELIGIBLE PROJECTS
• Artists appearing as part of a benefit or fundraiser cannot be considered.
• Producing arts organizations, such as orchestras, chorales and theater/opera companies, may not request fee support for guest artists appearing as part of the institution’s performances.
• Presentations of professional performing artist/ensemble from same state or metropolitan area as applicant cannot be considered.
• Performances by commercial entertainers may not be approved.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A separate application needs to be submitted for each artist/ensemble for which you are requesting support. Only three applications can be accepted per organization. In an effort to fairly distribute the funds, only one application per organization per day can be reviewed. Organizations submitting multiple applications need to indicate the order in which your applications are to be processed. Show the priority for funding by filling out the "priority box" on the application(s). Early submission increases the likelihood of funding for your applications.
