Kansas City Makers Apply Now for Open Spaces / Deadline: April 15, 2018
As part of Open Spaces’ commitment to fostering independent creative work in Kansas City, the Makers Pavilion will operate during all nine weekends of the event. Designed by local architects and made by local builders, the Makers Pavilion provides an alternative to the look-but-please-don’t-touch ethos of the rest of Open Spaces, by offering the visitors the chance to browse, purchase and take home some of Kansas City’s fabled ingenuity in crafts, artisanship and the applied arts.
Open Spaces will review applicants in every conceivable area of handmade activity, including — but not limited to — jewelry, ceramics, glass, metalwork, culinary arts, textiles, printmaking, graphic arts, woodwork and almost any conceivable technique for making objets d’arts. All work available for sale will be displayed in individual Makers’ booths, in exchange for a modest per-weekend rental fee that will be more deeply discounted with each accumulated weekend. Artists will retain 100% of all sales proceeds.
