RFQ SUBMISSION DEADLINE: October 31, 2017

BUDGET: $64,000

ABOUT: Chadron State College is a four-year public college in the Nebraska State College System in Chadron, Nebraska. The college is located in the northern part of the Nebraska Panhandle in the Pine Ridge area. The school opened in June 1911, although a previous institution dated from the late 19th century. The college has an enrollment of about 3,000 students. Five of its 25 major buildings are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The renovation and expansion of the $16.2 million Armstrong Gymnasium Events Center officially began at Chadron State College in April 2013. The resulting new facilities were dubbed the Chicoine Center after Vernon P. Chicoine, a businessman, rancher, civic leader, investor and philanthropist who lived in Chadron for 66 years.

The roughly 6,250 square foot room which formerly housed a swimming pool was converted into a strength and conditioning center. The arena was completed in the winter of 2014 and opened for the 2014-15 men’s and women’s basketball seasons. The current stadium structure at Chadron State College will be replaced by a concourse and two-story pavilion used to house game officials, coaches, media and fans, a central grandstand and a new field turf surface.

ARTWORK SITE/TYPE OF ART SOUGHT/ENVIRONMENT: The committee is seeking a large sculpture or installation public art project. The proposed site of the commissioned artwork will reside in the exterior grounds between the stadium and the Chicione Center. The proposed site is a highly visible, elevated location that overlooks the stadium, near the Chicione Center entrance.

The committee is seeking artists who can design, in an engaging manner, innovative, thought-provoking projects that relate to the proposed space and are aligned thematically with the Chicione Center, Stadium and Chadron State College’s mission.
