A new installation by Arkansas-based artist Danielle Hatch is on view now at the Mid-America Arts Alliance’s Culture Lab. Although, the gallery building is not currently open to the public, visitors may enjoy the full installation on display both inside and outside of the windows.

Visitors will immediately see the large fabric installation titled, All the Petals Packed Inside Her on the outside of the building. Inside, single-channel video piece, The Understory, is visible best at night through the gallery windows. The installation will be on view through early April.

Danielle Hatch is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the female body’s relationship to the built environment, notions of artificiality and power structures, through site specific installations, sculptures, and performances.

“I work in the disciplines of performance, installation, and sculpture to explore what lies underneath the surface of domesticity. Using materials related to home-making and home-building I seek to render feminine lived experience in tactile ways, exploring womanhood as an identity constructed through narrative. My sculptures often navigate identity formation through the lens of knowledge and expectations passed from one generation to the next, connecting the body with the built environment or the landscape, literature with self.”

The Culture Lab at Mid-America Arts Alliance is located at 2018 Baltimore Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, 64108.

Other viewing times are available by appointment and are subject to staff availability, please call 816-800-0926 to make arrangements.
